Justify My Love: New Gnarls Barkley! (Exclusive?!)

Just another manic Monday. I think we’ve got a new Gnarls Barkley track on our hands, called “Run.” Rolling Stone has already heard a few songs, so you know they’re out there somewhere…but where? You heard it here first! Give it a download and see if.Let me know in the comments if you love it, hate it, or think it’s totally fake. Either way, I think it’s all good when Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo get together. Does that make me crazy?

NAS TO GET DROPPED!?!

The word is out! Nas is supposedly going to get dropped from Def Jam if he doesn’t find another name for his album, which is presently called N****r. I do find it interesting that they take this stance, because all Def Jam rap albums are laced with variations of the N-Word. Still, an album of that name is sure a pretty powerful statement, however Nas intends to present it. Maybe this is the beginning of a different regime in rap? NOT! Tell me your thoughts on this matter.
If this is true, is Def Jam right or wrong for allegedly threatening Nas with independence if he names his album N***r?

Gnarls Barkley Preps Sophomore Release

Gnarls Barkley is set to release their long-awaited sophomore album this April and the genre-stretching group is looking toward their first single.
Rolling Stone recently previewed two tracks from the project, which are reportedly competing for lead single honors.
The pair of cuts have been characterized as drastically different; with one cut leaning towards the funky side, thanks to the use of an organ and French horns. The second song is a darker ballad, marked by an acoustic guitar and Cee-Lo's foreboding echo, "Who's gonna save my soul? I know I'm out of control."
The latter is said to be more highly favored by Gnarls.

Uncle Murda Shot.

Hiphopdx.com reported this yesterday but I didn't hear anything else about it - so I didn't post the story. Uncle Murda, whose real name is Leonard Grant, suffered a graze wound in the 10:30 p.m. shooting Tuesday on Linden Blvd. in East New York, cops said. Grant, 27, was not seriously injured, sources said.Grant has a rap sheet dating back to 1997, which includes an arrest for attempted murder of a cop and drug charges.

TMZ has learned rapper Lil' Wayne has been hit with some big time charges -- possession of cocaine, possession of ecstasy and possession of drug paraphernalia. Make it rain!
Wayne, real name Dwayne Carter, was arrested with two others who have been charged with possession of marijuana. Cops say they found 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and 41 grams of ecstasy pills on his tour bus -- after they stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint.
Police also found $22,000 in cash and a 40-caliber pistol, but Wayne, we're told, does have a permit to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Florida. They tell us they're checking to see if that carries over to Arizona.

Ludacris Opening Upscale Restaurant In Atlanta

Grammy-award winning rapper Ludacris is adding the title of restaurateur to his resume. In April 2007, he will launch his latest business venture, Straits Atlanta, bringing Singaporean cuisine to the artist’s hometown.

The restaurant is the fourth of it’s kind: Ludacris’ partner in the venture, Chef Chris Yeo owns three other restaurants in the Straits brand in San Francisco, San Jose and Burlingame, California.

Named for the Straits of Malacca - the waterway between China and Singapore – Straits offers a modern twist on Singaporean cuisine, which is a combination of Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, Malay, Indian and Nonya cooking.

Straits Atlanta, will further incorporate Georgian ingredients into the menu.

"I love Atlanta's charm, architecture, food and, most of all, the people," explained Yeo of his decision to expand his brand outside of California. "Chris Bridges’ commitment to his community and his family sealed the deal for me – this market is ideal for Straits and likewise Straits is perfect for the city."

The upscale $2.7 million dollar restaurant will open in Midtown Atlanta, in a building purchased by Ludacris nearly one year ago.

Shortly after purchasing the real estate, the rapper/actor, born Chris Bridges, was introduced to Yeo by mutual friends.

After a visit by Ludacris to one of Yeo’s existing locations, the two decided to become partners.

Ludacris has also invested almost $1,000,000 dollars into renovating the building.

"During my travels, I’ve experienced some of the most diverse international culinary flavors in the world," Ludacris says. "After experiencing Yeo’s modern spin on Singaporean cuisine combined with the sexy dining experience, I wanted to bring this restaurant home to Atlanta."

Ludacris and Chris Yeo plan on opening two more restaurants in the Atlanta area.

Def Jam Sued For $20 Million Dollars Over Chrisette Michele

Douglas "Biggs" Ellison has filed a $20 million dollar lawsuit against Island Def Jam, claiming the label attempted to steal R&B artist Chrisette Michele from his Queens-based production company, Four Kings Productions Inc.
Ellison filed the lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court, claiming that Island Def Jam Music Group, Shalik Berry (A&R) and Michele’s parents Lynette and Lemuel Payne engaged in unlawful business practices in an attempt to get the Grammy nominated singer out of her exclusive contracts with Four Kings.

The court battle ensued when Michele filed a lawsuit against Four Kings Productions Inc. in July of 2007, claiming that the CEO, Douglas "Biggs" Ellison, embezzled money from her Def Jam contract and harassed her.

While Michele eventually withdrew those allegations from her lawsuit, Ellison claims that his reputation was severely damaged when the accusations hit the press.

Four Kings entered into an agreement with Def Jam in September of 2005 and completed multiple songs, which appeared on Michele’s debut album, I AM.

"As soon as the artist’s mother saw that Chrisette was receiving money, all a direct result of the efforts of the production company under its contracts with the artist, Lynette Payne quit her job as a teacher and, in willful disregard of the artist’s contractual obligations to Four Kings, usurped management functions regarding her daughter’s newly found success, in an effort to keep the money in the family," Ellison claims in the lawsuit.

Ellison claims a meeting took place in Def Jam’s New York office, where he met with Berry, as well as the Paynes, who attempted to persuade him to release Michele from the contract.

"Mr. Payne knew about his wife’s attempts to take over management of their daughter’s suddenly burgeoning career, and hoped that his role in trying to take over management of the artist could be kept in the background," Ellison’s lawsuit states.

The lawsuit further claims that business decisions made by Def Jam, Berry and the Paynes prevented Four Kings from receiving income from the sales of Michele’s debut album I AM.

Ellison also counter sued Michele for breach of contract in a previously filed lawsuit.

Michele was recently nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance for her song "If I Had My Way."

Her voice can also be heard on three tracks featured on the Grammy-nominated album Hip Hop Is Dead by Def Jam recording artist Nas, as well as Jay-Z’s single "Lost One" from his album Kingdom Come.

More recently Michele can be heard on the track "Slow Down" from Ghostface Killah’s CD critically acclaimed CD The Big Doe Rehab.

Representatives for Ellison stated that he hoped the litigation does not "sidetrack Ms. Michele from the long and successful career that Mr. Ellison predicts is certain to be ahead for the incredibly talented Ms. Michele."
